A 10-year-old boy was shot Monday evening in Atlanta's Grove Park neighborhood, police said.

The screams of a 10-year-old boy shook parts of Atlanta’s Grove Park neighborhood Monday evening.

Lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the thigh was how the victim’s brother found him, an incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reveals.

Officers responded to Children’s Hughes Spalding Hospital at about 8:40 p.m. when the injured child arrived. The boy had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, according to Atlanta police, and he was described as alert.

Investigators believe he was shot near the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue, a residential street south of Hollowell Parkway.

According to the report, the victim’s brother and mother told police that the boy was shot outside their home. As soon as the brother heard the victim scream, he ran outside and found him on the ground, the report states. The victim’s mother told officials that she heard gunshots and then saw that her son had been shot.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting and no suspects have been identified.
