Ex Commanders' Coach Praises Jayden Daniels

The Washington Commanders and quarterback Jayden Daniels will get their first taste of primetime action on Monday Night Football when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.

Daniels is coming off of another near mistake-free game in which he led his offense inside the red zone six times against the New York Giants. Unlike his fellow rookie counterparts, Daniels has yet to turn the ball over.

That is one thing that has impressed former Washington coach Jay Gruden. He has a weekly appearance on the “Grant and Danny Show” on 106.7 The Fan in D.C., and he was asked what he thought about the Commanders rookie signal-caller so far.

“Solid. Second game and he did not turn the ball over, which is critical,” Gruden said. “You have to win these close games when your defense is playing pretty good and the other team’s been struggling, and that’s what happened, and turnovers will kill you.

“As long as he’s protecting the ball, I know everybody wants to see touchdowns in the red zone, they’ll come, but just make sure we at least get points to keep the game close and try to win at the end like they did.”

The Commanders scored on every possession last week, but were unable to punch it into the end zone. Is it sustainable to win games by just kicking field goals? Absolutely not.

Daniels & Co. will have their chances to get into the end zone on Monday night against a Cincinnati defense that has been Jekyll & Hyde over two games this season.

The game kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET.
