Virginia Tech Makes Huge Metallica Announcement

What makes college football so appealing is its uniqueness in how it connects with the home crowd and intimidates visiting opponents and their fans. For many schools, it starts with how the team enters the field.

Virginia Tech definitely falls into this category. Since Aug. 27, 2000, the Hokies football team has been using Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” as their entrance song, a tradition that pumps up the home crowd as the team charges onto the field before each game.

At the time, Lane Stadium had just installed a new video board, and “Enter Sandman” was chosen as the entrance song over “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses and “Sirius” by The Alan Parsons Project. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic entrances in all of college football. That’s why it’s fitting that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band will finally perform their first concert at Lane Stadium.

Virginia Tech and Metallica fans alike will no doubt be eager to be a part of this long-awaited collaboration. However, it’s still a bit surprising the band has yet to play their iconic song live during a Hokies home game. That performance would definitely add another layer to the already famous entrance.
