Deion Sanders Issues Major Warning After 'Idiotic' Colorado Band Report Surfaces

When Deion Sanders became the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football program last year, it immediately sparked both concern and criticism. Conversely, it also garnered intrigue and a sense of hope for a team that was in desperate need of it.

The season before Sanders' arrival in Boulder, the Buffaloes won just one game and were widely regarded as one of the worst teams in the FBS. Even in the years before that, Colorado had not won more than five games in a season over the past five years.

Meanwhile, Sanders, in his three years coaching at FCS program Jackson State, posted a 27-6 record before making the move to Colorado.

Knowing the program needed something to regain relevance, Colorado Athletic Director Rick George made the bold decision to hire Sanders as his next head football coach.

If George was looking for glamour and flair, that's what he's gotten with Sanders now in his second season. If he wanted a media frenzy befitting of "Coach Prime's" personality, he's certainly received that.

What George has yet to see, however, are the results. In 14 games, and now two games into Year 2, Sanders is 5-9. Worse yet, the downside of hiring Sanders is starting to surface: the never-ending controversy.

On Monday, a report from Denver Sports' Jake Shapiro stated that Sanders had insisted the Colorado band refrain from playing the university's fight song if Shedeur Sanders, his son and the starting quarterback, scored. Instead, the loudspeakers in the stadium would play Shedeur's own song, "Perfect Timing."

Sanders and the Colorado athletic department have since denied those reports. On Tuesday, Sanders even addressed the matter, calling the report "idiotic," according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.

"I have a huge platform. I could really get personal if I wanted to, but I choose not to do that, because it's not right," Sanders said.

Indeed, Sanders boasts a significant platform as one of the most talked-about sports figures globally. With nearly seven million followers across Instagram and X, he is undeniably a larger-than-life personality. Beyond coaching Colorado, Sanders is a television personality featured in numerous commercials, adding to his accolades as a former two-sport athlete.

Where things once looked promising after starting 3-0 last season and becoming the buzz of the sports world, they have since cooled off for Sanders and Colorado as the wins have come less frequently. What has become more frequent is the drama surrounding the team. Whether it’s Shedeur throwing shade at his offensive line after the Nebraska loss, assistant coaches fighting each other , or the clear favoritism Sanders shows towards his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo, along with prized two-way star Travis Hunter.

Colorado is now getting all the wrong kind of attention.

The 1-1 Buffs move on to play Colorado State on the road. You can bet fans will be paying close attention to what song plays if Shedeur scores a touchdown against the Rams in Week 3.
