Legacy, Eustace earn Pine Tree XC titles
Tyler Legacy’s girls and the Eustace boys earned team championships on Friday at Pine Tree’s Mike Darby Cross Country Invitational held at Lear Park in Longview. The event, previously called the Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot, honored longtime cross country coach Mike Darby, who coached for 38 years at Pine Tree.
No. 5 Malakoff blasts eighth-ranked Grandview

Sep. 14—Fresh from a stirring Homecoming win over Rusk, Athens rolls into Kaufman, Friday to meet the winless Lions. Kaufman is 0-3, but have the talent to cause problems for the Hornets. Athens coach Za Harrell said they're probably the best winless team in the state. They lost to Terrell last week, 47-14, but stayed close to the Class 5A Division 2 Tigers for three quarters. The score was 21-14 entering the final period.
Sports: Bearettes get district win at Athens
Sep. 14—Brownsboro picked up a second straight district sweep by beating Athens, 3-0 on Tuesday at the Hornet's gym. The Bearettes had solid wins in the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-13, before being tested in the 27-25 final. The match was the first in district play for the Lady Hornets.
