Back in 2021, the Georgia Bulldogs fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game after a dominant performance from Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. But just a few weeks later, the Bulldogs shut down Young, and former Georgia star Nolan Smith explained how they did it.

During an appearance on the Green Light podcast with Chris Long, Nolan Smith revealed that the team used a special drill to prepare them to chase Bryce Young in the pocket.

“When we played guys like Bryce Young, we did this thing called the rabbit drill,” Smith said on the podcast according to On3 “Coach would line up a 5×5 cone and we would chase our scout slot receiver. We use to chase around Ladd McConkey and he would bring some of the shiftiest teams down there on our team. For 10 seconds, we just had to chase him just to get you ready, just to get your motor right.”

Obviously, the drill worked as the Bulldogs sacked Young three different times in the game while also forcing an interception. Of course, it certainly didn’t help Alabama that star wide receiver Jameson Williams missed the majority of the game with a torn ACL, but Georgia’s defensive adjustments clearly impacted Young.
