From WSB TV…

A 75-year-old man was swindled out of more than $100,000, officials say.

According to Athens-Clarke police, scammers convinced the victim that his computer had been hacked and he needed to purchase cybersecurity software.

The scam took place over the course of three years, with the victim sending over $100,000 to different people across the U.S. who posed as legitimate corporations.

Authorities are urging residents to talk to their loved ones and neighbors, especially senior citizens, and college students about common scams and fraud schemes.

“These populations tend to be the most targeted by scammers,” the department said.
