The Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts recently introduced Chewbacca, nicknamed Chewy, who they describe as a funny fella who loves everyone. “This adorable mutt is built like an oversized Shih Tzu and weighs 25 lbs. Since he was found as a stray and never claimed, we don't know much about his past.” Chewy has a personality as unique as his looks. "He is overly friendly with all, dogs included. He can come on a bit strong but in the kindest way. He wants everyone to be his friend!" states the Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts, who is currently caring for Chewy until he finds his forever home.

The Denver City Council voted Monday to award a million-dollar contract to Second Chance Center in the City to administer the High-Intensity Treatment or HIT program. “The HIT program at (the center) will provide intensive office-based and community support services for the approximately 10% of clients with serious mental illness or severe and persistent mental Illness,” according to a memo from city staff to the City Council. “HIT uses a progressive engagement service delivery model that will increase the amount and intensity of care for the high needs individuals enrolled. These individuals will be assigned a dedicated care manager and a licensed clinician to help them gain stability within the community.”

The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that a Virginia church has closed its doors, but not for the same reasons other congregations in the Commonwealth have been shuttered. It was not a declining or aging congregation or financial matters. Victory church has ceased to exist because the pastor has been accused of s$x crimes against a minor and now faces six additional charges.

The Denver City Council agreed Monday to purchase Denver Community Church’s gymnasium and a vacant lot for $4 million. The properties are at 333 and 375 S. Zuni St. and the gym can hold up to 120 people. Currently only 30 migrants are sheltered there, according to Evan Dreier from the mayor’s office. He said the building, which exceeds 10,000 square feet, could serve the traditional homeless population, too.
