Aspen Welcomes a Mountainy Tex-Mex Restaurant

The owners of Aspen’s wildly popular Clark’s Oyster Bar recently opened their second restaurant, proving there is still ample room in the town’s dining scene for a newcomer. Enter Las Montañas, located past a teal-green door on the second floor of the South River Plaza, in the space formerly occupied by longtime establishment Jimmy’s. Serving traditional Tex-Mex cuisine—but with a high-end twist, such as snapper-and-shrimp ceviche, warm crab tostadas and grilled Spanish octopus—the rustic space is decorated with authentic Mexican art and tile, weathered wood and leather-wrapped chairs.

The highlight, however, is the tabletop sizzling fajita platter ($85 for 2-4 guests), with tender, marinated ribeye steak and perfectly seasoned achiote chicken, along with garlic jalapeño butter, cumin rice and queso fundido.
