1 injured in Asheville shooting, suspect arrested

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting at an Asheville apartment complex on April 20.

Asheville Police responded to Mission Hospital Saturday evening for a man with a gunshot wound.

Officers said they determined that the shooting happened at an apartment complex on Atkinson Street.

Investigators identified the suspect as 23-year-old Markie Lequan McAlpin.

McAlpin was arrested Wednesday in Henderson County. Police said he was found with a .38 revolver when he was taken into custody.

McAlpin was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, shooting into occupied property, possession of a firearm by felon, resist, delay, obstruct, and a federal probation violation.

He is being held in the Henderson County Jail without bond.

There’s no word on the condition of the victim.
