APD is seeking public’s help

Press release from the Asheville Police Department:

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in North Asheville on Monday during the early morning hours that claimed the life of the pedestrian.
APD Patrol Officers responded to the scene of the crash near the intersection of US 25 (Merrimon Avenue) and Marcellus St around 05:42 a.m. on May 22nd. Benjamin David Brown (04/09/1977) was on a skateboard traveling south on US 25 (Merrimon Avenue) and entered the intersection with Marcellus Street against a steady red traffic light. A Republic solid waste collection truck traveling east on Marcellus Street entered the intersection at the same time, and the two collided. Brown was dislodged from the truck within a short distance and came to rest in the roadway, where a Subaru Legacy sedan traveling west on the exit ramp struck the victim, creating a second impact.
Brown succumbed to injuries sustained from the collisions on scene; next of kin has been notified.

APD is still investigating the collision and is asking if anyone has any information about the incident to contact APD at 828-252-1110, or you can send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
