New pottery and arts studio in the works for Ashburn

An interesting new art studio is opening this summer in Ashburn. It will be called CIY Pottery — which stands for Create It Yourself.

CIY Pottery is coming to 44933 George Washington Boulevard. That’s in the University Commerce Center on the north side of Route 7. It’s the same center with Wicket Door Pub and Zocalo Tacos.

The studio will feature state-of-the-art equipment including nine throwing wheels, two large hand-building tables, three kilns, several glaze options, and two slab rollers. (We assume pottery people know what all that means.)

CIY Pottery is open to both novices and experienced potters. There will be memberships available with access to the studio six days a week, plus classes for all levels.

Besides pottery, there will be special events specializing in creative crafting, stained glass, wreath making and resin art. Plus, there will be periodic showcases highlighting the work of local artists.

Right now, the CIY Pottery team is hoping to open the studio’s doors sometime in August.
