APPLETON (WLUK) -- Octoberfest weekend in downtown Appleton will get an earlier start this year.

Organizers are adding three hours to the Friday night License to Cruise event. The classic car show on College Avenue will start at 3 p.m. Sept. 29. It closes at 9:30 p.m.

"We've received a lot of requests over the years to extend the hours of License to Cruise, and we're excited to be able to make that happen this year," Gary Rohde, License to Cruise coordinator on the Octoberfest Committee, said in a news release. "The people at this year's event will have even more time to enjoy and explore the amazing vehicles and entertainment we're bringing in."

About 400 cars are expected to be showcased. Any car manufactured in 2003 or earlier is eligible. There is a $5 registration fee for vehicle showing.

Special interest vehicles will also be featured in the Fox Cities Exhibition Center.

Octoberfest is the next day, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Organizers say they still need about 800 volunteers.
