Palm Springs officials broke promise on Section 14
One year ago, the Palm Springs City Council committed to “finding the facts” about Frank Bogert’s and the city’s involvement in Section 14 before further discussions or decisions about Section 14. During the April 27 council meeting, Councilmember Lisa Middleton stated, “I think we have to...
Calling all seniors interested in pickleball
Recently, a few senior players have reached out to me to ask, “How do I find other players 65+ for social play?” Thank you, Lee Brockman, for initiating this conversation. At my round robins, many seniors ask if we can have a 65+ or a 70+ division, which is possible when I have more courts available. ...

After declining to answer questions for months about the city's handling of the push for Section 14 reparations, Palm Springs Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein broke that silence this week. Among other topics, he addressed why city council members decided to offer to pay compensation for 145 of the homes that were...

3 Coachella Valley restaurants get 'B' inspection grades over food temps, vermin sightings
While most Coachella Valley restaurants passed their Riverside County health inspections this week, three spots incurred a number of violations that led to "B" grades, according to reports conducted April 19 through 24. Boycotting Palm Springs' Chick-fil-A is a slippery slope
It is indeed a slippery slope if one uses political/religious views as a guide for allowing a business such as the proposed Chick-fil-A to open in Palm Springs. A business you choose not to support may suffer but how about the opposite situation? Would you want a boycott or ban by others of businesses flying the rainbow flag? Let them come to town. I for one will never patronize them, not simply for their “views," but for the fact that they actually donated money to specifically anti-LGBTQ organizations. That crosses the line for me. ...

The Date Shake: The Coachella Valley’s Coolest Concoction
The date shake from Shields Date Garden incorporates special date “crystals” that you can purchase in the café marketplace. “Seasons in Southern California suggest violence,” Joan Didion wrote. She wasn’t wrong. There’s fire season. There’s flood season. There’s arson season. Even awards season seems harsh. Each is enough to make you want to flee to Palm Springs for respite, as our seasons — high, shoulder, and low — don’t suggest violence as much as some unusual sense of shifting depth. This is a trick of our persistent sun. We’re always looking for our best light, while always grasping for something to make us cool.
