Before her Eras Tour and ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ Taylor Swift performed at this Alabama high school for $20 a ticket

ANNISTON, Ala. ( WIAT ) – On Friday, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift released her 11th album, “ The Tortured Poets Department .”

The 14-time Grammy-award winner and billionaire now fills stadiums on her world-wide Eras Tour, with the cheapest tickets selling for around $450 . But at one point, she was playing at an Alabama high school for just $20 per ticket.

On March 31, 2007, the then 16-year-old Swift paid a visit to Saks High School in Anniston in to perform her debut album, “Taylor Swift,” according to The Anniston Star . An announcement printed in the newspaper listed tickets as $20 for general admission and $35 for floor seating.

Tracey Tucker and Alan Renfroe, a music duo known as “Tracy and Alan,” opened for Swift that night, according to the Star. At the end of the night, Swift even stuck around to meet fans.

“She couldn’t have been nicer to us,” Kristen Rothwell, who attended the concert, told the Star.

That same year, Swift won the Horizon Award at the County Music Awards .

“I can’t even believe that this is real,” Swift said, before launching into a list of thank-you’s. “And the fans, you have changed my life. I can’t even believe this, and this is definitely the highlight of my senior year.”

Since then, Swift has won 17 Teen Choice Awards, 11 People’s Choice Awards, an Emmy, 14 Grammys and 14 MTV VMAs.
