2 charged in connection with deaths of man, woman in Anniston

Two suspects were arrested Monday in connection with the deaths of a man and a woman in Anniston over the weekend, police said.

Randy Wayne King, 42, and Ronnie Lee King, 67, were arrested two days after Ricky Ward Jr., 27, was found dead in a ditch and Laura Jean Thornton, 55, was shot and critically wounded, Anniston police said Monday. Both victims were from Anniston.

Thornton, who was airlifted to UAB Hospital, later died of her injuries. Police did not say exactly when she died.

The victims’ bodies were found two blocks away from each other in Anniston.

Randy King was charged with hindering prosecution while Ronnie King was charged with murder after they were arrested by Anniston police and the Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies.

Police said the investigation into the deaths are ongoing and more arrests are possible.
