Anne Arundel County Police have charged a detective with driving under the influence after crashing into a sign in Severna Park on Friday night.
Officials say at approximately 8:20PM, officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision in the area of Ritchie Highway and Jones Station Road.
When officers arrived at the scene they located a vehicle that had struck a sign.
Officers detected signs of impairment from the driver, who was then placed under arrest and charged with Driving Under the Influence and other related traffic charges.
The driver was identified as Detective I. Preece, a 15-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
Officials say Preece has been administratively suspended with pay pending an investigation by the Office of Professional Standards.
