J.J. McCarthy gushes over ‘soulmate’ girlfriend Katya as he declares for 2024 NFL Draft

J.J. McCarthy is “so excited to continue” his football journey with longtime girlfriend Katya Kuropas as he leaves Michigan behind for the pros.

Upon declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft on Sunday, the 20-year-old quarterback — who is just a week removed from a national championship win with the Wolverines — gushed over his “soulmate” as he elaborated on his decision to depart Ann Arbor after three years.

“To my love, Katya… you are my soulmate, best friend, and my rock. I am so blessed to be your partner now and forever. I am so excited to continue our journey together,” McCarthy shared in a social media post.

McCarthy, who threw for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, helped lead Michigan to its first title since 1997 with a 34-13 win over Washington in the CFP championship game last Monday.

He sealed the victory at Houston’s NRG Stadium with a kiss from Kuropas.

The couple marked five years of dating in October.

Michigan, which had been embroiled in a sign-stealing controversy in the fall that resulted in a three-game suspension for head coach Jim Harbaugh, finished the season with a perfect 15-0 record.

McCarthy stated in Sunday’s message that he consulted with Harbaugh on the decision to declare for the NFL draft, as questions linger about the coach’s professional future.

“I have talked to many in and out of football, including my family, Coach Harbaugh, and many who’s opinions I greatly admire and respect,” McCarthy shared.

“This decision was not easy and how could it be — I love my teammates. I love my coaches and I love it here in Ann Arbor.”

McCarthy is considered the No.5 quarterback available in this year’s draft, according to ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.

As for Harbaugh, who coached the 49ers from 2011-14 before arriving at Michigan in 2015, he is expected to interview with the Chargers next week for their head coaching vacancy.
