Man charged in $80,000 chicken heist in Sumter County
An $80,000 chicken heist was foiled in Sumter County and a truck driver was taken into custody. According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Christopher Thomas, 55, was supposed to deliver 41,000 pounds of chicken to two locations in Milton, Georgia, but had other plans to make cash.

Those words, or something close, were said to me by a longtime photojournalist during the early morning hours as we stood outside Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, on Wednesday. The thermometer read 27 degrees, and the ground was covered in a heavy frost. For me it was the third consecutive day of early mornings and cold temperatures covering the services for former first lady Rosalynn Carter. The gentleman I was talking to has a career dating back further than mine, and the words he shared were told to him decades ago when he first expressed interest in photojournalism.

Cobb County's Annual Stuff-A-Bus Toy Donation Begins December 12, 2023: Help Local Needy Families this Holiday Season
The Stuff-A-Bus toy donation program will take place in Cobb County from December 12 to 14, 2023. This initiative is a collaboration between Cobb Christmas, Inc., CobbLinc, First Transit, and local businesses and volunteers. A CobbLinc bus, decorated for the occasion, will collect new, unwrapped toys for children aged 3 to 13 at various locations across the county. These toys will be given to about 1,000 needy families in the county.
