Fires in Anderson and Pickens Counties early Monday might have been weather-related. Thunderstorms packing strong wind gusts and spectacular lightning were in the area about the time fire broke out in an Anderson Church.

Firefighters dispatched to the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Highway 81-North just after midnight say, the roof of the building was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Easley firefighters suspect an electrical blaze that swept through the office and several rooms of the Quality Inn on Calhoun Memorial Highway early Monday, could also have been sparked by the thunderstorms.

The hotel was evacuated safely, and the Red Cross was helping guests find other accomodations.
