For years the ACID canal that runs through Anderson and Cottonwood has leaked into surrounding neighborhoods. Some residents are claiming that this year the flooding from the canal is lasting longer than usual.

KRCR has spoken to multiple people who live on Lucillia Street in Anderson who say they can't park in their driveways, they can't mow their lawn and some of their backyards are flooded because of the water that is on this street.

One resident who is directly impacted by this water, Denise Ferkey, says this flooding happens every year but this year seems to be far worse than usual and they feel something needs to be done. “This is a normal occurrence but usually 7 to 10 days every year but now we are in our 4th week of this and it has never been this bad, not this running river down the street.” Ferkey continued, “ I don't want to have to do this all summer, I am over 60 years old, I shouldn't be out here digging ditches or dealing with this.”

Another local neighbor, Chuck Niedringhaus, told KRCR he has grown frustrated with the water build-up in the streets. “Shut the water flow off so we can fix the damage and find out where the leaks are because it's not going to get any better,” Niedringhaus said.

They added that one neighbor is struggling to sell their house due to the water in their driveway. I want to add that I did reach out to ACID for a comment or an explanation as to why this year seems to be worse than others in terms of damage but they have not yet responded.

Residents told KRCR there is an emergency meeting being held Friday at 9 a.m., at the ACID office in Anderson.
