The community is invited to join a special service on Thursday, May 2, noon, at the Covington Courthouse Square in Andalusia for the National Day of Prayer.

Earl V. Johnson, Mayor of the City of Andalusia, signed a Proclamation declaring May 2, 2024, as National Day of Prayer for the community.

The Proclamation reminds us that “throughout history, America has faced trials and triumphs, and Americans have responded in prayer, seeking courage and comfort, inspiration, and joy-filled celebration.”

The Proclamation also encourages us to “express our faith and exercise our freedom in prayer, then unite our hearts and voices in personal prayer and public gatherings across America with fervent praise, repentance, love, and humble intercession for our neighbor and nation, holding fast to the promises throughout the Holy Scriptures that the Lord hears and avails much as He answers the faith-filled prayers of His people.”

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observation held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. This observance was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

For our community and nation, prayer will be led by designated individuals for the areas of first responders: Blake Turman – military, Corey Bryan – government, Katie Cooper – churches, Adrianna Carpenter – healthcare, and Fred Kelley – education.

A prayer box will be available for anyone to submit written prayer requests. The requests may be anonymous or contact information may be provided for updates or notifications of future events.

In the event of inclement weather, arrangements will be made to meet inside a designated room in the Covington County Courthouse.

If you have any questions, please contact Billy Boles, Pastor, Sovereign Grace Baptist Church at 334-343-1066.
