Longtime Lorain and Amherst resident turned Cincinnati local Lindsey (Kayle) Hilty, recently joined the foray of other Ohio women authors as she has released her first book.

Titled “Do You Have to Take Showers in Heaven? And Other Kid Questions About Our Forever Home With God,” Hilty’s book takes on the pressing questions many youngsters have about death and the afterlife.

Hilty’s 10-year-old daughter Abby first brought attention to these questions after the death of her great-grandmother, Sue Kayle, a lifelong resident of Lorain.

Hilty also noticed other elementary-age students in her Sunday school class struggling with similar questions and worries, so she got to work.

“There were enough questions to fill a book, so I started writing,” she said. “My favorite question became the title because so many kids can relate.

“While the Bible does not give us all the answers to things we wonder, like whether we will play video games with the disciples, we can apply what we know to be true and then have fun imagining the surprises God has in store for us.”

Comprised of 52 chapters, Hilty highlights a question for each as well as how youngsters and adults can point back to the Bible for answers.

The narrative follows a conversational and often humorous tone intended to keep the attention of both children and adult readers.

Hilty’s grandfather, Robert Kayle, who will be 94 in May, said he was especially interested in delving into some of the answers to the questions youngsters ask as he, too, has wondered the same things.

“Those were some of the same questions I was faced with when I taught Sunday school for several years,” said Kayle, also a Lorain resident.

In addition to the answers provided, readers are encouraged to look up verses in their Bibles for extra study as well as write or draw in the spaces provided.

Silly quizzes and opinion questions also arise in the book.

“The Bible has a lot to say about our forever home with God,” Hilty said. “By reading this book, my hope is that children will be able to work through their fears, sadness, confusion and curiosity to find joy in the hope of Jesus.”

She also stated that she hopes the book will encourage readers to get excited about Heaven as a masterpiece where God promises that everything will be better than anything they could possibly imagine.

Hilty’s book can be purchased from Amazon, Walmart, Barnes and Noble and all other places that books are sold.

She has been teaching children’s ministry for 20 years with a focus on elementary-age students.

In addition to being an author, Hilty is a home education and freelance writer.
