ELYRIA – Down by 13 late in the third quarter, things didn’t look good for Amherst on Friday night at Open Door but the Comets came back to win, 59-58. “It shows the character of these kids,” said Pat Bray, Amherst’s coach. “(Open Door) was 5-for-5 in that third quarter from three. They weren’t missing. We didn’t back down. We didn’t hang our heads. Kept plugging away at it. I’m glad they did what they did. Huge character from the kids on my team.”

SOLON — Bus rides from Solon haven’t always been kind to Elyria over the past few years. Saturday’s had to be a blast. The Pioneers played about as well as they could in beating the Comets 67-44 in non-conference play. Elyria (2-1) hadn’t beaten Solon on the road since 2017 when the schools were still in the Greater Cleveland Conference. The Comets (1-2) had won four straight over Elyria until the series ended in 2021 when Elyria opted to join the Southwestern Conference.

Girls swimming competed against Amherst Friday December 1st at Splashzone. Even though our girls team was greatly outnumbered they were still able to get on the scoreboard with several strong swims. The team of Erin Ellis, Meagan Rini, Alexa Lyczkowski, and Keely Walts placed second in their Medley and 3rd in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Meagan Rini took 2nd in the 200 Free and 100 Backstroke, Keely Walts was 3rd in the 50 Free, and Erin Ellis was 3rd in the 500 Freestyle. Great start to the season!
