On Sunday, September 15, metal band Megadeth canceled their show in Richmond, Virginia, with mere hours to go before the venue was set to open. Fans were left shocked, disappointed, and wondering why. The band posted a statement on social media announcing the cancelation.

“Due to unexpected and unpredictable circumstances, our show TONIGHT, Sunday, September 15th, in Richmond, Virginia, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled,” the post read. The band offered refunds through the venue, and stated that they “hope to see you at another venue soon.”

The venue initially shared the announcement on social media, then deleted the post. It later shared Megadeth’s announcement on its own Facebook page instead. This only added to the confusion for fans, with the show canceled only two hours before the doors were supposed to open.

Per a report from WTVR out of Richmond, people were commenting their opinions on the cancelation on Facebook. “That’s crazy. We volunteer there for our organization and some people had already gotten to the venue before it was announced,” said one user. Another wrote, “Just drove by on my way back home and unfortunately, people were still pulling up to the big concert canceled sign.”

Fans Left Disappointed as Megadeth Cancels Virginia Show 2 Hours Before Doors Open

Concert cancelations happen all the time. For example, Chappell Roan recently had to cancel two European shows due to scheduling conflicts. However, it’s when the shows are canceled hours before doors are set to open that fans usually feel let down.

In a similar situation, Stevie Nicks had to cancel a show in Hershey, Pennsylvania after fans had already shown up. Doors were open and soundcheck had occurred when the venue announced that the show was canceled. According to Nicks’ social media, there was an illness in the band that forced them to cancel the show, with fans already lined up outside the venue.

As for Megadeth, they are heading to Cincinnati on September 17, and it currently looks like that show is continuing as scheduled. Fans in Ohio should keep an eye on Megadeth’s social media to see if anything changes.
