BNSF opens new intermodal terminal in Utah (8/1/2025)
BNSF Railway Co. yesterday officially opened its new intermodal facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Class I held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, state and local leaders and officials from several partners, including the Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) and Patriot Rail LLC.

Chugging into town: Rare Utah Railway locomotive joins Utah State Railroad Museum collection on loan
OGDEN — A rare locomotive is joining the collection at the Utah State Railroad Museum at Ogden Union Station for the next couple years. Earlier this week, Utah Railway No. 5004 — an MK50-3 — arrived at Ogden Union Station on a loan from the Promontory Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society which just recently bought the 31-year-old locomotive.

Early Friday morning, thousands trying to get into downtown Salt Lake City for Pioneer Day festivities found their plans suddenly off track when the TRAX light-rail system hit a mechanical snag that tangled service across the network. Crews scrambled to diagnose and repair the problem while riders stacked up on platforms, reporting long waits and packed trains. The timing could hardly have been worse, landing on the same morning as the Days of '47 Parade and the Deseret News Marathon, which were already filling streets and sidewalks.
