Suspect in fatal Lake Berryessa shooting arrested, charged with murder

( KRON ) — A suspect in a fatal shooting at Lake Berryessa last weekend has been arrested. Gabriel James Chavez, 25, of American Canyon, was arrested and charged with murder, the Napa County Sheriff announced on Tuesday.

Chavez was arrested in connection to a shooting that took place Saturday following a large fight at Lake Berryessa . During the scene, which was described as “chaotic,” 39-year-old Vallejo resident Andres Fabian Sandoval Garcia suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Three additional victims were injured as a result of punches and stabbings, police said. The incident began as a confrontation between two groups that led to a brawl. The suspect in the shooting, later identified as Chavez, fled the scene, police said.

However, he was later detained while being treated at a hospital.

Chavez is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
