MyMichigan Health Foundation Accepting Scholarship Applications

The MyMichigan Health Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications from northeast Michigan residents for two of their scholarships for the 2023–24 school year.

The scholarships are available for current or former student residents in Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties who are pursuing education in the medical field.

The Dr. Peter Aliferis Memorial Scholarship is for $1,000 and is for students who are pursuing a career in either the clinical laboratory science field or medical school.

The June and Gerald Kramer Memorial Education Scholarship is also for $1,000, and applicants must be enrolled in nursing or direct patient care in order to be considered.

“I think the Aliferis is a little more intense, it’s like medical school or laboratory science, but the Kramer memorial scholarship is anyone that wants to help others, so it’s direct patient care,” said Director of the MyMichigan Health Foundation, Ann Diamond. “Whether you’re at one of the med lodges, or if you’re at the medical center here and you want to further your degree, that’s what that’s for.”

Keeping the scholarships local is a way for the medical center to help take care of the community.

“It’s people that have been born and raised here, maybe have gone away to school, but still if they want to return to this area, we hope they’ll look at employment with one of our medical facilities in the area,” said Diamond.

Scholarship applications are now being accepted until July 1st, with winners announced on July 19th. A link to the application can be found here.
