Mookie Betts has only known one job his entire life, and that is playing baseball. Until today.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar donned a Raising Cane’s hat and shirt and served fried chicken fingers at the fast food chain’s Alhambra store Wednesday in a media event to coincide with Thursday’s home opener at Dodger Stadium.

Thousands of fans showed up at the restaurant to meet Betts in this less-than-traditional setting. Not all, however, had a chance to be served by the perennial All-Star and Gold Glove winner.

“It’s super cool,” Betts told reporters, clearly enjoying the opportunity. “I still want to interact and talk and joke with people, and this is a good way for me to [do] that.”

Betts was there and gone before lunchtime, but not before Raising Cane’s presented Betts’ 5050Foundation with a check donation for $100,000. The foundation helps fund sports and nutrition programs for inner-city youth.

Betts also took a moment to reflect on the sky-high expectations facing the 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers, particularly after signing two-way star Shohei Ohtani to a record $700 million contract during the offseason.

The Dodgers are the betting favorites to win the World Series.

“Obviously, there’s going to be a good product [on the field], but we have to make sure we take care of business. And if we do take care of business we should expect some wins and a shot at that World Series.”

The Dodgers (1-1) play the St. Louis Cardinals (0-0) at 1:10 p.m. Thursday.
