A-P-D CHIEF HAROLD MEDINA WAS THERE AS WELL. NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING A FATAL CRASH INVOLVING TWO CARS ON I-25 NORTH OF PASEO DEL NORTE. IT HAPPENED AROUND 10:00 LAST NIGHT. THE DRIVER OF A JEEP, 22 YEAR OLD JONATHAN LUJAN, WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL, THEN BOOKED INTO THE METROPOLITAN DETENTION CENTER ON DWI RELATE

Driver of one vehicle arrested on multiple charges; 3 others injured

A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 25 Friday killed a 66-year-old Santa Fe man and injured three others. Alcohol and speed appeared to be contributing factors in the crash, a New Mexico State Police news release said.The collision happened around 10 p.m. on northbound I-25, north of Paseo Del Norte, the release said. Jonathan Lujan, 22, was driving a Jeep that rear-ended a Toyota pickup truck, causing it to roll over. The driver of the pickup truck, Hector Beltran, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 39-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl who were passengers in the Toyota pickup were taken to the hospital. The news release did not say what their conditions are. Lujan was transported to the hospital, treated and released. He was then booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on multiple charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol, the release said. The crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
