Men's Tennis Adds Three for 2023-24
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The defending Mountain West Champion New Mexico Lobo men’s tennis team has added three to the 2023-24 roster, a roster which loses just one player from its 2023 regular season title winning team.
Head Coach Chris Russell has announced Arthur Bellegy of Paris France, Avery Tallakson of Irvine, Calfornia and Philip Bosin from Albuquerque as new additions to the squad that will be looking for a four regular season title in the last five seasons in 2024.
“Really excited to bring Arthur, Avery and Philip to our family and have them become Lobos,” said Russell. “Arthur is a collegiate veteran that brings a ton of great experience and leadership into our program, and Avery and Philip are both from the high school ranks. Both have decorated prep careers and certainly make us a much deeper and more talented team in 2024.”
Bellegy last season played as Westcliff University in California, and he went 16-2 and was ranked No. 8 in singles in the NAIA. He went 16-2 in singles and was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles at the NAIA National Tournament. He played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Westcliff, which went 17-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament, the best season in Westcliff history.
A senior with two seasons left due to COVID, Bellegy has a 12.4 UTR. His sister Jade plays tennis on the Division II level at St. Leo in Florida.
Bosin in an Albuquerque native, joining Georgio Samaha on the Lobo squad as Eldorado grads.
Bosin was the New Mexico 5A high school singles champion in 2022 and 2023, and he is rated as a 4-star recruit and currently ranked in the Top 25 in the USTA Southwest Section by Tennis Recruiting.net.
Philip is no stranger to UNM, as his father Yuri is a political science professor at UNM, and his mother Gemma is also at UNM as a programmer analyst at Project Echo. His sister Ksenia also works at UNM Health.
Tallakson is from Woodbridge High School in Irvine, California. The winner of the 2023 Pac Coast League singles title, Tallakson is ranked No. 20, and a 4-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net) in the state of California for the 2023 class.
He also won the CIF Doubles title, teaming with one of his three brothers (Brayden), at the 2023 Ojai Event.
Tallakson comes from a prodigious tennis family as his father Steve played No. 1 at UC Irvine. His mother Melanie is a doctor at UC Irvine specializing in Alzheimer research.
