Local women's rugby club to compete in Final Four
ATOMIC SISTERS SUCCESS SAYS OVER 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING, ALTHOUGH THE ATOMIC SISTERS IN ALBUQUERQUE BASED WOMEN’S RUGBY CLUB IS COMPRISED OF MOSTLY LOCAL PLAYERS. I’VE BEEN WITH THE TEAM SINCE I WAS REALLY YOUNG AND WE ALL ACTUALLY PLAYED TOGETHER. A LOT OF THESE GIRLS I PLAYED WITH IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THROUGHOUT COLLEGE, I’VE KNOWN THESE GIRLS FOR OVER TEN YEARS. WE’VE SHARED EXPERIENCES THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T. THIS YEAR ALONE, THE ATOMIC SISTERS HAVE BEATEN TEAMS FROM ARIZONA, TEXAS, LAS VEGAS, OREGON AND CALIFORNIA. THEY’RE THE SOUTHWEST REGION AND PACIFIC SUPER REGIONAL CHAMPIONS SET TO REPRESENT THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE ON RUGBY’S BIGGEST STAGE. WE’VE COME A LONG WAY AS A TEAM AND WE ALL BEEN GROWING TOGETHER AND LEARNING TOGETHER. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS REALLY BIG FOR NEW MEXICO RUGBY AND IT WOULD DEFINITELY PUT US ON THE MAP. IT WOULD MEAN A LOT TO THE CITY. I KNOW IT WOULD MEAN A LOT TO THE RUGBY COMMUNITY THIS WEEKEND, THE ATOMIC SISTERS WILL TRAVEL TO SAINT LOUIS TO COMPETE IN THE USA CLUB DIVISION TWO WOMEN’S RUGBY FINAL FOUR. WE’RE ALL REALLY EXCITED, A LITTLE NERVOUS, BUT I THINK THAT WE’RE JUST GOING TO PLAY OUR GAME AND PLAY OUR HEARTS OUT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. WITH A WIN IN THE SEMIFINALS, THE ATOMIC SISTERS WOULD PLAY FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND BRING IT HOME TO THE CITY THAT RAISED THEM. IT WOULD MEAN THE WORLD. WE HAVE SO MANY SUPPORTERS AND A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT RUGBY IS AND DON’T KNOW THAT WOMEN PLAY RUGBY. SO. SO IT MEANS A LOT FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR OUR YOUTH RUGBY PLAYERS AS IF WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOGETHER. THAT WOULD BE PROBABLY THE MOST MAGICAL MOMENT OF MY LIFE BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT THIS TYPE OF TEAMWORK AND SISTERHOOD IS IN THEIR ENTIRE LIFE. AND I’M EXTREMEL
