AND THIS PUT AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON LOCKDOWN ON THE FINAL DAY OF CLASS. OUR TEAMS IN THE AIR AND ON THE GROUND. SASHA LENNINGER HAS BEEN LIVE AT THE SCENE ALL AFTERNOON. AND SASHA, WHAT DO WE KNOW? WELL, DARLENE AND DOUG, WE DO KNOW THAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, CHAMISA ELEMENTARY, WHICH IS JUST RIGHT UP THE STREET FROM WHERE WE ARE, IS NO LONGER ON LOCKDOWN. WE DID SEE STAFF ABLE TO LEAVE A FEW HOURS AGO, BUT THE POLICE PRESENCE HERE IN THIS NEARBY NEIGHBORHOOD IS MASSIVE. YOU CAN SEE THIS AS DODGE TRAIL HERE. YOU CAN SEE MARKED POLICE UNITS. THE SWAT TEAM CRISIS NEGOTIATORS HERE AS WELL, ALL TRYING TO GET SOMEONE OUT OF A BARRICADED HOME. SO WE FIRST LEARNED ABOUT THIS AFTER ALBUQUERQUE, ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TOOK TO TWITTER SAYING CHAMISA ELEMENTARY WAS ON LOCKDOWN DUE TO ALBUQUERQUE POLICE PURSUING SOMEONE IN THE AREA. AND IF WE TAKE A LIVE LOOK AT SKY 7, YOU CAN JUST SEE HOW MASSIVE THE POLICE PRESENCE HERE. IT RUNS DOWN DODDS TRAIL AND TURNS AND GOES TO THE BACK SIDE OF WHERE WE ARE TO THE BACKYARDS OF THE HOME HOMES IN FRONT OF US. AND WE DO KNOW, ACCORDING TO APD, OFFICERS ARE TRYING TO ARREST SOMEONE WITH A FELONY WARRANT AT THE TIME RIGHT NOW, IT IS NOT CLEAR HOW THAT PERSON IS CONNECTED TO CHAMISA ELEMENTARY, BUT WE ARE WORKING TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS ANY CONNECTION AT ALL. BUT THE HOME THEY SEEM TO BE FOCUSING ON IS ON THE BACK SIDE OF WHERE WE ARE ON DODGE TRAIL. An Albuquerque man fled police that led to a afternoon standoff by entering into an occupied home

An Albuquerque man was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff after breaking into a home on the west side.The incident started at Chamiza Elementary School, where 41-year-old Thomas Howell was acting suspiciously, according to an Albuquerque police resource officer. Howell was at the school looking for his son that's enrolled at the school.A second Albuquerque officer arrived at the school and found that he had a felony arrest warrant for a domestic violence incident. Howell managed to escape pursuing officers by jumping fences and running through yards.He was able to climb into a window and get into a home. Police later learned that an older woman was inside the home when Howell entered. The woman was able to be removed after the front door was breached, according to APD. Albuquerque SWAT was at the scene of the standoff to try and get him to surrender. Howell was hiding in the attic and was taken into custody before 7 p.m.He was taken into custody for the felony warrant, along with a charge of breaking and entering and aggravated fleeing of an officer.
