RIGHT NOW. A LOCAL THEATER WITH A TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. WHEN A MAN BRINGS IN A GUN INSIDE ITS DOORS. REPORTER JULIAN PARROTT JOINS US LIVE. AND JOY, YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO SPEAK WITH POLICE ABOUT THIS. HOW DID THEY DESCRIBE THIS INCIDENT? THEY DESCRIBE THIS INCIDENT. HEY, GOOD EVENING, SASHA. YEAH, SO I GOT THE CHANCE TO SPEAK WITH POLICE. THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS A HIGH STRESS SITUATION FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED. BUT WHEN THEY ARRIVED, THEY FOUND OUT THE EMPLOYEES HERE AT THE AT THE FLEX BREWHOUSE FOUND A WAY TO MAKE SURE NO ONE GOT HURT IN A MALE INDIVIDUAL BY THE NAME OF DARNELL VON HILL. DECIDED TO GO TO THE FLEX BREWHOUSE. IT WAS HERE WHERE POLICE SAY HILL, ARMED WITH AN AR 15 STYLE RIFLE, WALKED INTO THE THEATER. THIS POLICE REPORT SAYS DARNELL WENT INTO THE KITCHEN WHERE HE CONFRONTED MULTIPLE EMPLOYEES. OFFICERS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE WITHIN AN HOUR TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. WHEN WE RESPOND TO SITUATIONS LIKE THIS, IT IS VERY HIGH STRESS. JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T NECESSARILY KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GETTING INTO. WHEN THEY ARRIVED, POLICE FOUND OUT EMPLOYEES TOOK DOWN THE 26 YEAR OLD AND KEPT HIM DOWN UNTIL PPOLICE ARRIVED. ANGELINA NAVARRO WITH BERNALILLO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS EMPLOYEES TOOK MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS. ONE OF THE FEMALE MANAGERS AT THAT TIME WAS ABLE TO DISARM MR. HILL. SUNDAY AFTERNOON, CARS COULD BE SEEN PACKING THE LOT, WITH PATRONS MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEE A MOVIE. FLIX BREWHOUSE AND KOAT A STATEMENT SAYING WHILE THE EMOTIONAL TRAUMA OF THE INCIDENT CANNOT BE ERASED, WE’RE THANKFUL OUR ENERGY IS FOCUSED ON HEALING AND SUPPORTING THOSE INVOLVED. AS THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE, WE WANT TO GIVE KUDOS TO THOSE EMPLOYEES THAT WERE EXTREMELY BRAVE TO INTERVENE BECAUSE IT TAKES A LOT OF GUTS AND A LOT OF COURAGE FOR SOMEONE TO INTERVENE. BEFORE DEPUTIES ARRIVED ON SCENE. I DID ATTEMPT TO TRY TO SPEAK WITH PEOPLE IN THE AREA, SPECIFICALLY THE EMPLOYEES AT THE BREWHOUSE. I BRIEFLY SPOKE WITH ONE AND THEN MENTIONED THEY’RE STILL A LITTLE SHAKEN UP ABOUT THE SITUATION AND IT’S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME FOR THEM TO PROCESS IT. IT’S ALSO AND JULIAN, AS YOU JUST SAID, EMPLOYEES ARE STILL PROCESSING, BUT THE THEATER IS OFFERING THEM SOME HELP. RIGHT? YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT. SO IN THAT STATEMENT THAT FLIX BREWHOUSE SENT OUT, THEY ALSO MENTIONED THEY’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO OFFER PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING TO ANYBODY THAT HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS JUST TO MAKE SURE THEIR MENTAL AND OVERALL WELL-BEING IS OKAY. An Albuquerque man is in jail after allegedly walking into Flix Brewhouse with an AR-15-style rifle on Friday.Court records say Darnell Hill showed up at the entertainment venue after 11 p.m. Friday with the weapon. He approached the bar, before walking into the kitchen. Staff employees confronted Hill, and would eventually wrestle the gun away from him. The employees escorted Hill out of the building, and he was taken into custody by Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies.“When we respond to situations like this it is very high stress, just because you don't necessarily know what you're getting into,” BCSO's Public Information Officer Angelina Navarro said. At the time of his arrest, Hill's firearm was loaded with twenty-four .22 caliber rounds in the magazine. Hill has been charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm in a licensed liquor establishment and negligent use of a deadly weapon.“We want to give kudos to those employees that were extremely brave to intervene,” Navarro said. “It takes a lot of guts and a lot of courage for someone to intervene before deputies arrived on scene.” In a statement, Flix Brewhouse CEO Chance Robertson said the following:"We are incredibly proud of the team members who came face to face with a very dangerous situation on Friday night. We train our team on the potential of violence in the workplace but as we all know, nothing can adequately prepare you for what they faced and we're hopeful no one on our team ever has to do that again."One employee said some are still shaken up by the incident. Robertson added that Flix Brewhouse is working to provide counseling and support to those affected by Friday's incident.
