An Albuquerque man is in jail after allegedly walking into Flix Brewhouse with an AR-15-style rifle on Friday.
Court records say Darnell Hill showed up at the entertainment venue after 11 p.m. Friday with the weapon. He approached the bar, before walking into the kitchen. Staff employees confronted Hill, and would eventually wrestle the gun away from him.
The employees escorted Hill out of the building, and he was taken into custody by Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies.
“When we respond to situations like this it is very high stress, just because you don't necessarily know what you're getting into,” BCSO's Public Information Officer Angelina Navarro said.
At the time of his arrest, Hill's firearm was loaded with twenty-four .22 caliber rounds in the magazine. Hill has been charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm in a licensed liquor establishment and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
“We want to give kudos to those employees that were extremely brave to intervene,” Navarro said. “It takes a lot of guts and a lot of courage for someone to intervene before deputies arrived on scene.”
In a statement, Flix Brewhouse CEO Chance Robertson said the following:
"We are incredibly proud of the team members who came face to face with a very dangerous situation on Friday night. We train our team on the potential of violence in the workplace but as we all know, nothing can adequately prepare you for what they faced and we're hopeful no one on our team ever has to do that again."
One employee said some are still shaken up by the incident.
Robertson added that Flix Brewhouse is working to provide counseling and support to those affected by Friday's incident.
