A spokesperson for APD says an individual on a motorcycle was found dead in a parking lot. The victim appeared to have suffered at least one gunshot wound.
"I had to turn around. It took me like 20 extra minutes to get home," Kiah Farrell said.
Many people who live in the area were surprised by what happened near their homes.
According to APD, when officers arrived, they discovered one motorcycle had struck a vehicle in opposing traffic. The driver suffered the gunshot wound prior to the wreck.
People who live in the area say for the most part, it's a pretty safe area. So, when something like this happens, they are thrown off.
"That's weird over here," Eric Cosper said. "Normally, we don't have anything like that in the area like we do other parts of town. It's normally pretty safe here."
Over the weekend, four homicides took place. As of Sunday, there have been 16 homicides reported by APD in 2023.
Business owners in the area, like Ali Ward, said crime is unfortunate to hear about, but understands it comes with the territory of living in bigger areas.
