NOW. ON THE CORNER OF ALAMEDA AND CORRALES IN NORTHWEST ALBUQUERQUE, TRAFFIC CAN BE BUSY. BUSINESSES SURROUND THE AREA AND PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THIS AREA SAY IT IS A SAFE PLACE TO BE. BUT AFTER A SATURDAY HOMICIDE, PEOPLE I SPOKE WITH SAY THEY ARE SURPRISED. IT’S LIKE A SAFE AREA. YOU KNOW, THERE’S NOT A LOT GOING ON. BUT OVER THE WEEKEND, POLICE GATHERED TO THIS AREA TO INVESTIGATE A HOMICIDE WHERE TRAFFIC WOULD USUALLY FLOW. POLICE VEHICLES AND CRIME TAPE COVERED THE STREETS. YOU HAVE TO LIKE TURN AROUND, TOOK ME LIKE 20 EXTRA MINUTES TO GET HOME. ACCORDING TO APD, WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED, THEY DISCOVERED ONE MOTORCYCLE HAD STRUCK A VEHICLE IN OPPOSING TRAFFIC. THE DRIVER SUFFERED A GUNSHOT WOUND PRIOR TO THE WRECK. PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE AREA ARE SAYING THIS AREA OF TOWN IS A SAFE ONE. THAT’S WEIRD OVER HERE. NORMALLY, WE DON’T HAVE ANYTHING LIKE THAT IN THE AREA LIKE WE DO OTHER PARTS OF TOWN. BUT I’M IN A PRETTY SAFE HERE. AS OF SUNDAY, APD HAS REPORTED 16 HOMICIDES IN 2023. OVER THE WEEKEND, FOUR HOMICIDES REPORTED IN 24 HOURS IS IMMUNE. NOT EVEN OUR BEAUTIFUL LITTLE CORNER HERE. BUSINESS OWNERS LIKE ALLIE WARD SAY THESE CRIMES ARE UNFORTUNATE BUT UNDERSTANDS IT COMES WITH THE TERRITORY OF LIVING IN A BIGGER AREA. IT’S UNFORTUNATE AND IT’S SAD AND NOBODY WANTS ANYONE TO DIE. AS POLICE CONTINUE THEIR INVESTIGATION, PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITY, THEY BELIEVE IS SAFE, ARE SHOCKED BY THE NEWS. I HAD NO IDEA IT WOULD HAPPEN TO. LIKE YOU TOLD ME, IT SEEMED LIKE ANYTHING LIKE ON THE NEWS. IT’S LIKE, I DON’T KNOW, SURPRISING THAT WE DID GET THE CHANCE TO SPEAK WITH ANOTHER FAMILY ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS AND WHAT THEY HOPE HAPPENS NEXT. THEY SAY MOVING FORWARD, THEY HOPE THEIR COMMUNITY DOES NOT SEE A SPIKE IN CRIME. IN ALBUQUERQUE
