St. Michael-Albertville boys’ tennis continues to pile up wins. One match was rescheduled but the St. Michael-Albertville boys’ tennis team still won four of five matches last week. They lost one meet during a quadrangular meet and were 2-0 during dual matches.
On April 15, STMA swept Delano. Their match against Andover was rescheduled for Monday, April 29. On April 18, Monticello snuck by Alexandria 4-3 and they ended the week going 2-1 during a quad meet.
On April 20, STMA hosted Duluth East, Moorhead and Sartell. The Knights lost 4-3 to Duluth East but beat Moorhead 7-0 and Sartell 4-3.
Once again, the Knights’ versatility helped them win.
Against the Delano Tigers, it was much of the same from the first time around. Brock Cornell (no. 1 singles) won 6-1, 6-1. Brayden Szarzynski (no. 2 singles) won 6-2, 6-2. Brady Lindstrom (no. 3 singles) won 6-3, 6-1. Gavin Gerard (no. 4 singles) won 6-2, 6-0.
AJ Beck and Dow Dickerson (no. 1 doubles) won 6-2, 6-2. Andrew Beack and Hudson Slettum (no. 2 doubles) won 6-1, 6-1. Grant Hoefener and Connor May (no. 3 doubles) won 6-2, 6-1.
The match against the Cardinals was a lot closer but the Knights held on to win. They won two singles matches and two doubles matches. Cornell (no. 1 singles) won his match 6-4, 6-2. Szarzynski (no. 2 singles) was taken to the brink but won a marathon match 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Beck and Lindstrom (no. 1 doubles) won 6-1, 6-3. Beack and Slettum (no. 2 doubles) won 7-6 (2), 6-2.
The quadrangular meet started with STMA and Duluth East. Szarzynski (no. 2 singles) was the only singles player to come out with a win. Szarzynski battled against Ewen Moe but was able to snag a win in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (8), 10-6.
Beck and Lindstrom (no. 1 doubles) won 6-0, 6-2. Beack and Dickerson (no. 2 singles) won 6-1, 6-3.
Saturday’s sweep against the Spuds was a nice bounceback after the Knights’ loss to the Greyhounds. Szarzynski (no. 1 singles) won 6-4, 6-1. Dickerson (no. 2 singles) won 6-1, 6-2. Slettum (no. 3 singles) won 6-2, 6-2 and Gerard (no. 4 singles) won 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles didn’t have much trouble either. Cornell and Beck (no. 1 doubles) won 6-0, 6-1. Lindstrom and Beack (no. 2 doubles) won 6-2, 6-1. Completing the sweep was May and Hoefener (no. 3 doubles) who won 6-0, 6-0.
STMA had some gas in the tank and snuck by Sartell 4-3 during the Knights’ third and final match of the day. Cornell (no. 1 singles) and Szarzynski (no. 2 singles) both won 6-0, 6-0. Dickerson and Beack (no. 2 doubles) won 6-1, 6-2. May and Hoefener (no. 3 doubles) helped secure the overall victory with a 6-0, 6-4 win.
On Monday, STMA played new section foe, Monticello. On Tuesday, STMA played Hopkins. Both meets were after press deadline.
On Thursday, April 25, the Knights end their week with a trip to Buffalo. On Monday, April 29, the Knights have their rescheduled match against Andover and on Tuesday, April 30, STMA hosts Eden Prairie.
