Albany Police say the mother, whose son is accused of barricading her in a hospital room in Albany Medical center, has died.
We're told she died on March 28th. She was 97 years old.
The hospital went into lockdown March 27th just after 2:30 p.m. due to reports of an armed assailant inside.
Albany Police say Dino Savoca, 61, of Colonie, was inside the hospital room with his 97-year-old mother, who was scheduled to be transported to a rehab facility. Police say Savoca did not want to leave his mother and pointed a gun at a hospital employee.
When officers arrived, the suspect barricaded himself along with his mother inside the room, pushing furniture against the door.
Hours later, just after 7:00 PM, Albany Police Department’s Emergency Services gained access to the room and took Savoca into custody.
Police recovered a BB gun and shotgun from inside the room.
