ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - One person was killed and another is facing murder charges following a Tuesday morning homicide in Albany, according to the Albany Police Department (APD).

It happened in the 500 block of W 1st Avenue on Tuesday around 10:40 a.m.

The suspect was identified as Tramoski Franklin Jr., 24. Rasheed Cantyn, 46, was identified as the victim, according to APD.

Franklin was charged with murder and taken to the Dougherty County Jail. Other charges are pending.

Cantyn was found shot to death on his porch.

This marks the seventh homicide in Dougherty County this year.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said violence like this greatly disrupts the community.

“To me, it devastates our community. But I know it’s happening all over the world. But still, we have to be concentrated on what happens here in our city. So I don’t want to see us keep going with the same trend that we’re doing. We want to find a way of decreasing the violence, decreasing the gun violence here in Dougherty County.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact APD at (229) 431-2100 or Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS.
