Sherwood Wins

Sherwood Christian Academy athletic director Jay Flynt shows off all of the trophies the different teams at Sherwood Christian won this year. State championships in football and boy’s tennis highlighted the year but the Eagles were successful throughout the school year. “Competing with Excellence” was one of the mantras the school adopted this year.

ALBANY — At Sherwood Christian Academy it is always more than about the game itself, winning or losing. The school builds its reputation based on stringent academics and strong adherence to Biblical education and guidelines. The sports program is geared to raise young athletes to be role models of the faith as well as compete on the field of play. There was no gnashing of teeth a few years back when the Eagles lost 30 football games in a row because of the high standards and strong beliefs, but now the athletic department, led by new headmaster Kenny Roberts and athletic director Jay Flynt, Sherwood is promoting their strong standards AND winning on the field of play.

“The bottom line is we set out to create a motto and a vision of glorifying God and competing with excellence,” said Sherwood Christian athletic director Jay Flynt. “Sometimes you get the knock on a Christian academy saying you can’t compete with excellence on the field of play. But Jesus was the ultimate competitor and many of our athletes have bought into that.”
