‘Rituales: Reflections on Death and Spirits’ Opening Reception

    Friday, September 6

Join Rhythmix Cultural Works for a free opening reception of their latest exhibit on Friday, September 6, 6-8 p.m., at  2513 Blanding Avenue. Rituales: Reflections on Death and Spirits features the work of female artists who explore the realms of death and the spirit world, using a variety of media from quilts to collages.

Rhythmix explains that the new exhibit will empower viewers “to reflect on their own beliefs and connections to the mysteries of existence.” Curated by accomplished multimedia glass mosaic artist Mela Delgado, Rituales celebrates a distinctly feminine perspective on these universal themes.

The opening reception for Rituales has been aptly labeled “Birth,” and thematic events are in the works to celebrate “Life” while the exhibit is on display. On Friday, November 1, 6-8 p.m., guests may attend the gallery’s “Death,” a closing reception. RSVP online for the opening reception, and keep an eye out for other upcoming events for the Rituales gallery.

    ‘Glow Golf’ Mini Golf

    Friday, September 6-Saturday, September 7

Summer vacation has come to a close, and that means one big thing—the return of Glow Golf at Subpar Miniature Golf ! Grab a party of two to six guests, and book tickets in advance for this 19-hole round of indoor miniature golf. Glow Golf is back every Friday and Saturday, 7-11 p.m., at 1600 Park Street.

After a years-long hiatus due to lease issues and the pandemic, Subpar made its triumphant return to Alameda at the previous Walgreens space on Park Street (at Lincoln Avenue). The venue is 16,000 square feet—twice the size of its original location. Patrons can enjoy an expansive arcade alongside the beautiful Bay Area-themed golf course.

A snack bar offers family favorites from wings to jalapeño poppers, and a variety of hard and soft drinks are available to customers. Golfers can easily enjoy a beverage while playing the course thanks to designated drink holders at every hole. Customers interested in reserving space for more than six guests can call the Subpar events line at 510-871-1407.

Walking Tour of Caroline, Weber, and Hawthorne Streets

    Sunday, September 8

Lace up your shoes for the latest Alameda Post History Walking Tour on Sunday, September 8, 10-11:30 a.m. Join Post historian Dennis Evanosky on the corner of Central Avenue and Caroline Street to explore the magnificent homes of the Gold Coast’s “West End.”

Among the many houses, Dennis will highlight Caroline Dwinelle’s impressive home and gardens, for whom the street is named. Caroline was the widow of town founder William Worthington Chipman and wife of John J. Dwinelle when the home was built. Other notable characters include famous—and less well-known—architects and builders who left their marks on the neighborhood.

To provide backstory for the tour, Dennis will record a short, introductory lecture. This lecture is optional, and participants will still enjoy and learn from the walking tour even without watching the presentation. The link to the recording will be sent to ticket holders before their tour.

Comfortable walking shoes, sunblock, and water are recommended for this tour. Mobility devices, strollers, and well-behaved dogs are welcome. Tickets can be purchased online , and children under 6 may attend for no charge. If you can’t make it on September 8, an identical tour will take place on Saturday, September 14 . We’ll see you there!
