Alachua County purchases Sunrise Residence Inn from St. Francis House
The Alachua County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to purchase the Sunrise Residence Inn from St. Francis House. The county will purchase the property for $1.95 million, which was St. Francis House’s asking price. The board will pay a $150,000 deposit to execute the contract and another $150,000 deposit within 90 days. The rest of the money will be due within 30 days of the final deposit.

Gas prices see slight dip in Gainesville area
A week after the Gainesville area saw a 2024 record high at the pump, gas prices dropped 10 cents per gallon. According to Thursday’s weekly AAA gas report, prices fell from $3.67 last week to $3.57. Statewide, the cost went down 16 cents from $3.64 to $3.48. Nationally, the price dipped only two cents from $3.67 to $3.65.

Another victim files sexual abuse complaint against Gainesville church leader
Another former member of the Christian Coalition Family Church in Gainesville has accused its founder of sexual assault, Alachua County court records show. Lorenzo Lee Crawford, 55, who refers to himself as the "Apostle," has been in the Alachua County jail since his arrest on May 23, 2023, following a SWAT raid on his church's compound, located at 7501 SW 75th St. Crawford was initially charged with 11 counts of sexual battery involving three women and one count of aggravated battery. He was charged with an additional count of felony battery in a separate court filing earlier this month. A child abuse charge against Crawford was dropped in October, court records show.
