AKRON, Ohio — A 16-year-old was shot and charged with multiple crimes following an incident that took place at an alleged gambling house in Akron on Monday night.

According to Akron Police, officers responded to the Royal Queens Party Center in the 800 block of Brown Street at 7:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting. The establishment had already been on the police department’s radar and a concern to area citizens as an alleged gambling house.

Upon arrival, officers found a 16-year-old on the ground with a gunshot wound. The teen was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening abdominal injuries.

A 22-year-old employee at the establishment told police that the teen suspect entered the establishment and brandished a handgun. A struggle over the gun ensued, resulting in the suspect being shot.

Evidence collected at the scene included shell casings, gambling machines, an undisclosed amount of cash, and other related gambling equipment. According to police, the 16-year-old faces pending charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

While police were on scene, 34-year-old Billy Walker -- who reportedly leases the building -- and 19-year-old Donovan Alexander -- the alleged manager of the gambling operation -- arrived and were arrested. Both men were charged with Operating a Gambling House on gambling-related charges and later transported and booked into the Summit County Jail.
