Akron’s Historic Arts District Is Buzzing with Activity for its Quarterly Art Walk

Fri 6/9 @ 5-9PM

Summit Artspace in Akron’s Historic Arts District downtown, will be hosting its quarterly artwalk this Friday with the theme “Be the Change,” with a focus on how the arts can impact social justice. There’ll be events in its building, as well as adjacent spaces, institutions and businesses.

Its 20-plus resident artists will be doubled by pop-up artists, all selling their work throughout the building. That includes a QueerMarket on the second floor featuring work by LGBTQ+ artists.  Service and advocacy groups will be offering information and The Summit FM 91.3 will be broadcasting from Summit Artspace. There’ll be food vendors onsite as well.

And Kent State University’s Wick Poetry Center will park its Traveling Stanzas Poetry Makerspace in front of the building, where people can stop by and create their own poems about social justice.

Nearby you can visit the Akron Art Museum for free to see its current Keith Haring show or take part in fun activities in its Bud & Susie Rogers Garden until 9pm.  Akron Soul Train’s Galleries will also be open until 9. The Akron-Summit County Public Library’s downtown branch will be open after 7 for community art activities.

Businesses such as Nightlife Cinema, Curated Storefront, Bounce Innovation Hub, Jilly’s Music Room, BLU Jazz+ BLUtique Hotel, the Northside Cellar and Zeber-Martell Gallery and Clay Studio will be hosting events as well.
