Two Akron teens were injured − one seriously − after shots rang out Sunday night during a large gathering in the parking lot of the former Erie Island Elementary School.

Officers found the first victim around 12:15 a.m. in the emergency room of the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.

Authorities say someone dropped off the 17-year-old who had suffered a gunshot wound.

His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Police say a second victim − an 18-year-old male − was brought to the same hospital suffering from "significant" injuries sustained when he was run over by a car after the shots were fired.

The second victim was seriously injured and remains hospitalized.

Police say an altercation erupted during the gathering and the 17-year-old was shot.

The second teen was injured by a vehicle that was apparently attempting to "escape the volley of gunshots" in the parking lot. The driver fled the scene after the incident.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators recovered a rifle and numerous caliber shell casings from the parking lot.
