Lone Star’s Centennial graduation is Sunday
It will be the Centennial graduation for Lone Star when 14 seniors will graduate on May 5, 2024, surpassing the 1924 Lone Star class by two. The class of 1924 was the largest to graduate from Lone Star for many years until 1930 and 1941 when there were also 12 grads.
Baseball Recap: Otis comes up short despite Erick Thorn's strong performance
Otis and Stratton squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Otis had to settle for second. They fell 10-6 to the Stratton Eagles. Otis was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Stratton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April.
YHD has new CEO on board
Yuma Hospital District’s new CEO Anne Kreutzer began in her new role on Wednesday of this week, May 1. The YHD Board of Directors discussed her arrival during its regular monthly meeting, last week in the Pearse Board Room. Board President Monica King, and Mitch Korf, Delaina Klein and De Ann Sewell were in attendance. Robert Dorothy was absent.
Otis baseball keeps moving on
The Otis High School baseball team has advanced in the Class 1A District 5 Tournament, and stand a great chance of advancing to next week’s regional round. Otis outlasted fifth-seed Caliche 15-10, Tuesday in the district quarterfinals at Akron. The Bulldogs improved to 13-4 on the season and is No. 5 in the 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index. However, they just the fourth seed in District 5 as Akron, Haxtun and Merino hold the top three spots in the 1A Index.
