If you’ve been following the journey of billionaire Ken Griffin, you’re probably aware of his significant move from Illinois to Florida, along with his company, Citadel. Griffin's relocation has been making waves, particularly with his substantial donations to various Florida institutions, making it clear that he’s here to stay. Now, it looks like Griffin is solidifying his presence even further with plans for a massive new office tower in South Florida, and we’re finally getting a closer look at what this development entails.

    Citadel’s Expansion in South Florida

Back in June 2024, Citadel made headlines when it announced that it would be expanding its current office space by taking up eight floors at 830 Brickell Plaza. This expansion was necessary due to yet another wave of hiring, reflecting the company’s growing presence and influence in the region.

    Unveiling the New Brickell Headquarters

The real buzz, however, centers around Citadel's plans for its future headquarters in Miami. Companies connected to Ken Griffin have already filed a pre-application with Miami-Dade County, sparking interest and speculation. While initial details were limited, we now have a clearer picture of what to expect.

The new headquarters will be an impressive 1,032-foot-tall tower, offering 1.3 million square feet of office space. In addition to its extensive office areas, the building will also feature 212 hotel rooms, strategically located near Brickell Bay Drive. The groundbreaking for this ambitious project is set for the third quarter of 2025, with construction expected to take at least five years to complete.

But this isn’t just any office tower. The building will boast a range of amenities, including restaurant space, underground parking, and an outdoor terrace, all designed to cater to the needs of Citadel’s employees and visitors. This development is poised to redefine the Miami skyline, becoming a landmark in its own right.

A spokesperson for Griffin spoke to BISNOW about the project, stating, “The development of this iconic, world-class tower at 1201 Brickell will redefine the Miami skyline and further solidify this dynamic and vibrant city as a global destination for talented professionals and their families, businesses, and culture."

Griffin himself has been vocal about his reasons for leaving the north, often criticizing what he describes as a "deluge of bureaucracy" in regions like Chicago. He’s found a stark contrast in South Florida, where he feels the environment is much more conducive to business and innovation.

As this massive project moves forward, it’s clear that Ken Griffin and Citadel are not just relocating—they’re making a bold statement about their commitment to Florida. With this new headquarters, Griffin is not only reshaping his company’s future but also contributing to the ongoing transformation of Miami into a global hub for business and culture.
