ADRIAN — Eleven woodworking students who have successfully completed their studies in professional wood design will receive their diplomas Sunday during a commencement ceremony in Adrian.

Students enrolled in the Wood Design program at the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute in Adrian will graduate Sunday having displayed “a remarkable passion for woodworking, and their dedication and hard work have been evident throughout their time at the institute,” according to a news release from the SBWI.

The Wood Design program provides students with a comprehensive education in woodworking techniques, craftsmanship and design principles. Over the course of their studies, students are able to hone their skills, demonstrate creativity and exemplify a commitment to excellence in their chosen craft, the release said.

The program immerses its students into the art and craft of woodworking and furniture design, according to www.sambeaufordwoodshop.com. As they delve into the history of furniture design, students learn to appreciate the versatility of wood while exploring sustainable and eco-friendly materials.

The Wood Design program has a strong emphasis on form and function, the website added, as it teaches students the art of joinery, shaping and carving, and the techniques of surface treatment, finishes and veneering.
