A half-acre lot on Sunset Boulevard that was once destined for an Art Deco hotel tower is now the site of a far taller proposal: a 27-story apartment building with 239 units. Galaxy Commercial Holdings filed the application with the Los Angeles Planning Department on October 21, seeking to bring 239 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including 37 reserved for very low- and moderate-income renters, to 6409 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

$3,322 DWP Bill Fuels Calls for Relief and Audit

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass asked the DWP Board on Tuesday to pause shutoffs through the end of the year for customers facing unusually high utility bills after recent record heat. Bass said customers should pay what they can afford now while the Department of Water and Power helps residents better understand and pay their bills. Her request comes one day after Councilwoman and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman unveiled a plan to audit the utility and require DWP officials to appear before the City Council to publicly explain rates. "For seniors and people with health conditions, air conditioning isn't a luxury. It's essential to staying safe. With outrageous gasoline prices and inflation driving up grocery bills and the cost of living, we don't want anyone overwhelmed by a utility bill," Bass said in a statement. "Angelenos need swift relief, and I am taking concrete action to provide it." The DWP Board's commissioners are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Beginning next month, DWP will give every residential customer information about their electricity and water use, intended to help residents identify conservation opportunities. Bass said the department's conservation programs can lower usage and bills over time.
