A man who was charged with a DUI allegedly crashed into a police vehicle causing critical injuries to an Aberdeen officer, according to authorities.
Officials say Acting Corporal James Haddix the officer was struck head-on early Sunday morning while on the way to work from his home in Delaware.
It took about 45 minutes for the emergency crew to remove the officer from his unmarked vehicle, said police.
Police believe the driver, 24-year-old Johnathan Hendricks of Middletown Deleware, was under the influence when he crashed destroying both vehicles, said Newark Deleware Police Department.
Corporal Haddix was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, said the department.
Hendricks was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol but was released for medical treatment.
The Newark Deleware Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident.
