The Summit County Sheriff’s Department closed North Slope Road near Elizabeth Pass Saturday, evacuating the area near the fire.

Two helicopters helped cool the flames with water drops Saturday afternoon, and aircraft dropped “swaths of fire retardant” to slow the wildfire’s growth, according to the Forest Service. These efforts are assisting crews on the ground.

Two hand crews arrived at the scene Saturday night. Fire personnel are based near the Bear River Ranger Station on Highway 150, officials said.

“Please drive slowly and yield to fire traffic in the area,” the Forest Service posted on social media .

The Elizabeth Ridge Fire continues to move east at this time.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
